JSA: Darkness Falls Reviewed by Randy Jackson Written by David Goyer, Geoff JohnsDavid Goyer, Geoff Johns, Art by Stephen Sadowski, Buzz, Marcos Martin, Michael Bair, Keith Champagne Publisher: DC ComicsSynopsis: This was originally printed in JSA #6-15. The JSA fights off an attack by Black Adam. Later, a convalescent Wildcat has to fight off an attack by a new Injustice Society. Afterwards, Obsidian tries to take over the world using his shadow demons, but the JSA manage to defeat him. Later, the terrorist group Kobra blows up an airplane with Atom Smasher’s Mother in it, and the JSA manage to keep them from taking over the world. Finally, the JSA have to fight against the time traveling villain Extant and keep him from destroying the fabric of time. In the aftermath, due to the time space considerations inherent, Extant ends up taking Atom Smasher’s mother’s place on the airplane. Good Stuff: Possibly the best thing about this era of JSA was the level of excitement and suspense within each story. The creative teams do a nice job of maintaining a feeling of foreboding despite the fact that we all know that the JSA will prevail in each and every instance. There’s also a nice cohesiveness between the art teams. Not so Good Stuff: As much as I enjoyed the story, I have a hard time buying Wildcat taking down the Injustice Society, particularly as powerful and ruthless as they are. I give this book 9/10.
