Hellblazer: Damnation’s Flame Reviewed by Randy Jackson Written by Garth Ennis, Art by Steve Dillon, William Simpson, Peter Snejberg Publisher: VertigoSynopsis: This was originally printed as Hellblazer #72-77 Constantine travels to New York in order to attempt to forget about Kit. With his guard down, he gets waylaid by Midnite, who exiles him to a land of dreams. There he meets President Kennedy and the soul of Midnite’s sister, who also happens to be the source of most of Midnite’s power. Later we see a flashback story of his old friend Brendan and Kit, and then Brendan’s ghost and Constantine share a night out drinking. Finally, Chas regales some of his mates with a story he shared from Constantine’s past about the time that Constantine came to his own funeral. Good Stuff: More good stories. Particularly effective are Chas’s story and the stories with Brendan. Not so Good Stuff: Unfortunately the main story isn’t as compelling and interesting as the others. It runs a little overlong, and the political stuff with Kennedy and Lincoln doesn’t really work well. I give this book 7/10.
