Blackjack: Blood and Honor
Reviewed by Randy Jackson
Written by Alex Simmons, Art by K. Lashley, C. Batista, Caesar, J. Igle, Grey & Studio, R. Stull, P. Novin, W. Wong, N. Messingill & Gould
Publisher: Dark Angel Productions

Synopsis: Blackjack: Blood and Honor concerns itself with the adventures of 1930’s-era Black adventurer Arron Day, who has been hired to protect a Japanese ambassador for peace from the forces of war that oppose him.

Good Stuff: This is a very good action story. I like the way that Simmons keeps things moving, and I particularly like the flashbacks to Arron’s youth.

Not so Good Stuff: One of the problems I do have with this story is that I never really get a good feeling of exactly who Arron Day might be. While it’s obvious that he’s a man of some unique skill and talent, despite the flashbacks, I just never felt that the reader gets a good grasp of Arron. Also, I have to say that many of the faces, particularly those of the Japanese and Chinese characters in this comic, are difficult to tell apart.

I give this book 8/10.
