V for Vendetta
Reviewed by Randy Jackson
Written by Alan Moore, Art by David Lloyd
Publisher: Vertigo

Synopsis: This is the story of a post-nuclear England that has resorted to fascism, and the efforts of an anarchist known only as V to overturn the government.

Good Stuff: Well, it’s all good. The way that Moore and Lloyd tell the story—using a muted color palette—evokes the desperation and hopelessness of the population under the thumb of the crushing fascism. The creators also create an effective roster of characters to tell the story, from the dogged determination of Mr. Finch to the crushing decline of Rose Almond, and especially the transformation of Evey Hammond from would-be prostitute to successor to V.

The other thing that I appreciate is that V’s methods aren’t wholly palatable or acceptable, and I like the fact that Evey calls him on those methods.

Not so Good Stuff: No major complaints that I can think of. There are moments where the story lags slightly, but they are quite brief.

I give this book 9/10.
